The Inspiration: Traveling to Burning Man is becoming increasingly difficult for many. Increased ticket prices,  accessibility, and climate, have placed restrictions on our travel. We communicate through social media, mailing pendants, patches and swag, plus share our insights, drawings, and ideas with each other. Our spirit has never dampened despite our challenges in attending Burning Man or not, and taking all of this under consideration, I had an idea.

What if there was a mid-year retreat where we don't have to battle the elements, where we could all hang out longer and spend more time in quality discussions and bonding. Since so many Burners live on the West Coast and are familiar with Reno, it made sense to me that the Peppermill would be a perfect place to hold our first gathering.

The Retreat:

I am pleased to propose our first annual mid-year retreat for the outstanding makers, gifters and dreamers of Burning Man Jewelry in gathering together to exchange ideas, foster friendships, learn techniques, explore sourcing, casting, demos, socialize, and share stories of inspiration.

The Playa Jewelers Annual Retreat will be held first in Reno, then at the opening for the fabulous collection of LadyBee celebrating the permanent exhibit at the Smithsonian Renwick in Washington, DC. Then off to Denver for the Colorado for the Gem Show.

Where to Stay: Peppermill Resort:

The Peppermill in Reno has been one of the favorite places to stay pre and post-Burning Man. It is a large hotel with seven good restaurants, three pools with hot tubs, a full spa, and meeting rooms. It is low-key and social with good staff. It’s proximity to the Nevada Art Museum and Generator https://www.therenogenerator.com/ in Sparks, NV. The Peppermill has lovely bars and is perfect for socializing.
